Program and application information
For mentor applicants, this may include information about school participation, athletics and extracurricular activities, community service, references, reasons for wanting to become a mentor, and information relevant to our screening and matching process.
For mentee applicants and their families, this may include information about the child, their school, interests, circumstances, and information provided to help AFK determine eligibility and create an appropriate mentor match.
Sensitive or health-related information
As part of the mentee application and matching process, parents or guardians may provide information about a child's disability, special needs, physical or mental health, developmental or behavioral circumstances, or other information relevant to the child's participation in the program.
We collect and use this information only as reasonably necessary to evaluate program eligibility, understand a child's needs, facilitate an appropriate mentor match, provide and support the mentorship, address safety or program concerns, and administer the AFK program.
Washington law provides specific privacy protections for consumer health data, including requirements concerning disclosure, consent, sharing, and deletion rights.
Payment and donation information
If you make a donation or pay a program-related fee through a third-party payment service, payment information may be collected and processed by that service. AFK generally does not receive or store complete payment card numbers.

3. Mentor and Mentee Applications
AFK's programs involve youth participants, including children and teenagers. We take the information provided during the application and matching process seriously.
Mentee applications are submitted by a parent or guardian. Information about a child may be used to determine eligibility, understand the child's interests and needs, and facilitate an appropriate mentor match.
Mentor applicants provide information directly through the mentor application and may also provide parent/guardian and reference information. AFK uses this information to evaluate applications, conduct screening, communicate with applicants and their families, and determine whether an applicant is eligible to participate as an AFK mentor.
We ask applicants and families to provide only information that is relevant to the application and program.
4. Consumer Health Data
Because AFK serves children with disabilities and special needs, families may voluntarily provide information that relates to a child's physical, mental, developmental, behavioral, or other health-related circumstances.
For purposes of applicable Washington law, this may constitute consumer health data.

Depending on what a parent or guardian provides, this may include:

5. SMS/Text Messaging
AFK collects mobile phone numbers from mentors and parents/guardians when they provide a phone number through an application, registration form, program form, or other communication with AFK.
We use mobile phone numbers and SMS consent information to send program-related text messages, including:
- Reminders to mentors to submit their monthly mentoring and volunteering hours
- Reminders about upcoming monthly high school chapter meetings
- Occasional reminders about AFK mentor-buddy events
AFK primarily communicates event information and reminders by email. SMS messages are used only occasionally for event reminders and primarily for the program-related reminders for mentors described above.
SMS consent and privacy
When you provide your mobile phone number and opt in to receive SMS messages from AFK, you consent to receive program-related text messages from us. Message frequency may vary.
Athletes for Kids does not sell or share mobile phone numbers or SMS consent information with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes.
We may share information with service providers that help us deliver SMS messages or operate our communications systems, solely as necessary to provide those services and subject to applicable contractual and legal requirements.
Opting out
You can opt out of AFK text messages at any time by replying STOP to an AFK text message.
After you send STOP, you may receive one final message confirming your opt-out. You will no longer receive SMS messages from that program unless you subsequently opt in again.

6. Email Communications
If you provide your email address to AFK, we may use it to communicate with you about:

Program participants

Athletes for Kids does not sell personal information or consumer health data.
In particular, we do not sell or share mobile phone numbers or SMS consent information with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes.

12. Children's Privacy
Athletes for Kids is a youth mentoring organization, and our programs involve children and teenagers.
Our website is primarily intended for parents, guardians, high school students, and other adults who interact with AFK on behalf of themselves or a child. We do not ask children to independently submit applications for becoming a mentee. Mentee applications are submitted by parents or guardians.
Because our mentor program includes high school students, AFK may collect personal information from teenage mentor applicants as part of the application, screening, training, and matching process. Mentor applicants are asked to provide parent or guardian information as part of the application process.
Parents and guardians may contact us with questions about information submitted regarding their child.
