I joined AFK in the summer before my junior year, and it's become something I look forward to every weekend. When I first joined, I didn't know exactly what to expect but I wanted a fun and engaging relationship. I knew it was a great fit when I met my buddy for the first time, seeing that we were both super competitive and connected through sports and card games. Hanging out with him every week has taught me to take breaks in life, play like a kid again, and just be present.
I love that our friendship has a routine, playing our favorite card games like speed and stress, but it is also spontaneous at times when we want to step out of our comfort zones and try a new sport. Watching him grow in his social and school life - and as a person of high character - has been one of the most rewarding parts of this experience. His growth has inevitably rubbed off on me as well, shaping the lessons I've taken from AFK.
Mentee Parent
Saturdays at our house are special for us. Besides having a chance to sleep in, it’s the day that Sean comes to hang out with our son. As the clock gets closer to when Sean arrives, our son is thinking about things they can do together. For him, it’s quality time with his mentor who truly meets him where he is at. Be it playing chess, cards, or football in the backyard, Sean shows our son what patience and working together look like. We are so grateful for AFK and for the joy Sean brings to our son.
