BECOME A MENTOR

If you are an athlete attending Skyline, Eastlake, or Eastside Catholic High School in Sammamish, Liberty High School in Renton, Redmond High School in Redmond, Bellevue High School or Newport High School in Bellevue, Issaquah High School, Mercer Island High School or Lake Washington High School in Kirkland and would like to make a significant impact on a child with special needs in your community, you can apply to become an Athletes for Kids Mentor.

Athletes for Kids is community based youth mentoring program. The children we mentor usually reside within the attendance area of one of our high school chapters. Exceptions to this can be made depending on the availability of mentors and the needs of the child. We currently have over 100 active athlete-mentors.

Application Process

If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a mentor, and they are currently attending high school at one of our high school chapters and participating in a sport, an application must be completed and submitted online. Your application will be screened by Athletes for Kids staff. If approved, an interview will be scheduled. Once selections are made, the athletes must take part in a training session before they are eligible to be matched in a mentoring relationship with a child.

Mentorship Donation

As a non-profit, AFK depends on funding from various sources including grants, private funding, and the generous support of participant families. Each mentorship costs approximately $1,200 per year to support and maintain. We kindly ask that all families, if able, make a minimum annual donation of $100. Your contribution directly supports your child’s participation in the program!
