3 Shamrock Crafts

Here are 3 shamrock crafts you can do with your buddy for St. Patrick’s Day.

Shamrock Marshmallow Painting

Materials:

-Miniature marshmallows

-Cardboard clover (you can draw it yourself)

-Green and white craft paint

-Toothpicks

-Paper plate

-White card stock or construction paper

Steps:

  1. Squirt a small amount of green paint and white paint onto a paper plate. Poke your marshmallows with toothpicks and dip the marshmallows into your paint while holding on to the toothpick.
  2. Hold your cardboard clover onto your piece of cardstock and start stamping your painted marshmallows around the clover. Make sure you get all around the edges and you can paint less and less the further you get away from your clover.
  3. Carefully remove the clover and let your paint dry.

Shamrock Suncatcher

Materials:

-White disposable coffee filters

-Washable markers

-Spray bottle

-Construction paper

-Glue stick

Steps:

  1. Color the coffee filters. Encourage your buddy to fill in all the white space. The more they decorate it, the more vivid the colors will be on their suncatcher. To make a rainbow shamrock suncatcher, have them color the coffee filter in a rainbow pattern.
  2. Once they are decorated, spread the coffee filters out on paper towels.
  3. Have your buddy spray their design with water using their spray bottle. Watch the colors begin to swirl together.
  4. Allow the coffee filters to dry completely.
  5. To make the frame for your shamrock suncatcher, fold a piece of construction paper in half.  Then fold it in half again. Cut a heart from the folded paper, using the inner corner of the paper as the heart’s point and leaving the sides intact.  It’s important that the heart you cut is a little smaller than 1/4 of the size of your coffee filter.  Sit the solid clover shape down.
  6. Cut around the shamrock shape  in your folded paper again to make the frame, approximately 1/4 inch (1/2 cm) thick.
  7. Use a glue stick or clear tape to attach the clover frame onto one of the tie-dyed coffee filters. Use scissors to trim off the extra coffee filter.
  8. Then hang your rainbow catchers on your window with clear tape.  If desired, tape the solid construction paper shamrocks to the window, too.

Raised Salt Shamrock

Materials:

-White Glue

-Paper (cardstock paper is recommended over regular paper because salt painting requires thicker paper so it does not fall apart)

-Baking tray

-Salt

-Food coloring

Steps:

  1. Draw a shamrock with white glue onto cardstock. Use the white glue to create doodles and designs inside your shamrock art salt painting in any way that you wish.
  2. Sprinkle salt on the shamrock art while the white glue is still wet. Remember to place your cardstock on a tray (just to prevent spills)
  3. Shake of the excess salt before painting with food coloring
  4. Paint the shamrock with the food coloring while the glue is still wet.
